Are these a kind of gall mite? I can't seem to find any information on this for the American Basswood, just the Maple tree Bladder gall mite (which looks to be the same). Thanks.
Lauraine No the pods are about 1/4 inch in length and are about 1/8 inch high. they are oval in shape and are equal in size on both sides of the leaf. Color of top is lite red with a green interior, all solid. If I can figure out how to scan a photo I will send include it with my next entry
Not the same, but related. All of these gall-mites are host-specific, so what is found on one genus of trees won't be found on a different genus. But relatives of it may be.
Lauraine, again....no...to begin with I think the tree is a willow tree of some sort. The "pods" are limited to one or sometimes two per leaf and are not on every leaf but many of them. I appreciate your interest in solving this mystery. thanks Hartabard
