I bougth 1 of these giant tubers yesterday, it was the size of a small coconut, with a 1" sprout on it already from the middle, and some little eyes on the sides.

It wasn't cheap at all.....$11, but compared to other prices have seen online, it looks like a good deal

My front lawn is going to be the talk of the neighbourhood :-)

Correct spelling for this species is macrorrhizos . Its very unusual for a site like that to have it wrong .. or just sheer laziness for a psuedoscientific site .. just checked image and sure looks like they have Xanthosoma there instead of Alocasia . $11 sounds like a good price for tuber ..

Floridata evidently has this plant mislabeled, as it is not Alocasia macrorrhizos, but a species of Xanthosoma, an entirely different genus. I have been hybridizing with the large Alocasia species since 1979 and I am in no doubt at all about what the plant illustrated really is.

    Ed,
Yep, I've been hopping, especially since I've started up a good number of species of Eucalyptus from seeds. Plus, it's hybridizing season again, and I've got my own Alocasia robusta in bloom for the first time. Pollen dropped this morning, so I was out pollinating like a madwoman!
