Ok so here's the issue. While moving a couple weeks ago my girlriend noticed tiny little green balls in the soil of one of my two aloe plants. -The plant is about 50cm in diameter, and has roughly 15 shouts. -The little green balls are opaque and pretty much the same color as the shouts, just a little lighter. They range from 2 - 4mm in diameter. When squished, fluid squirts out. Now I've been watching these little balls for a while and they don't seem to be doing much. There aren't any creepy crawlies in the soil or anything, so it doesn't appear to be insect related. My second aloe plant is pretty much the same as the aloe in question, but does not have these strange little invaders, what's up here?
Did you buy from 2 different sources, or pot into different sorts of compost? it sounds like either a control release fertilizer or pesticide, so dont squeeze any more.
baught from the same store + repotted in soil from same bag. soil was baught from canadian tire. the bag of soil didn't say anything about added fertilizers, and i didn't see the things while i was potting the plant
can you post a picture of the balls? (they would have been darker when fresh/full of fertilizer) maybe you just didn't notice.
My guess is slow release fertilizer. They come in various colors. Have a look at the thread Identification: - Does anyone know??.... | UBC Botanical Garden Forums.
See if they grow. I once top-dressed my coffee tree with CT potting soil. I didn't make the connection until much much later, but I got a crop of green mushrooms. My most recent Croppy Tire bag provided me with a nice bunch of chickweed... Think I'll blow the budget from now on and buy elsewhere.
hmm, the balls are similar to those in junglekeeper's referenced thread, but don't vary as much in shape. i think i'm going to have to go with the fertilizer theory as these balls seem to be popping up in alot of forums as such. thanx
