Locations of Akebono's will be summarized here. (Prunus x yedoensis 'Akebono'). [edited by wcutler 20090726:] There are so many Akebonos, and so many were already posted in this thread in separate postings, that I've combined ones in the same neighbourhood into one posting, so when I finish, all the Akebonos in a neighbourhood posted up to 2009 will be in the same posting, one posting per neighbourhood (unless there were no Akebono postings in that neighbourhood). The other cultivar location threads are not organized this way.
Downtown: Burrard Skytrain Station - this has been a Festival Favourite every year and has always been the site of the Cherry Jam, the festival's opening party; also in this neighbourhood: * near False Creek, south of Pacific between Hornby and Howe. please see pictures from Downtown neighbourhood. * the trees at Alberni and Burrard are officially in the West End, as they're south of Georgia, even though that area seems that it would be called Downtown. They've been posted in both blogs. Here are photos in the Downtown thread. * Hastings near Broughton, see photos * Bayshore Drive, between the road and the seawall, and also at the east end of Bayshore Drive, see photos * Georgia at Denman, ne corner, a private planting that is in the "public realm", this should be in the Downtown neighbourhood, but photos were posted in the West End blog. These are planter trees, but it's a beautiful planting. * row of young trees at Coal Harbour, east of Cardero, is in the Downtown neighbourhood, but photos are in the West End blog Edited June 19, 2011: more Downtown 'Akebono' locations: Hornby St, north end and the plaza leading up to Canada Place, see photos. *at Georgia and Bute, see pictures in West End / Stanley Park. * Alberni and Burrard at Grosvenor Plaza, see photos in the West End. Actually, most photos of these trees are in the Downtown thread, as the location just seems to be downtown and is only a block away from the Burrard Station trees which being north of Georgia are properly downtown. * on Pendrell between Thurlow and Bute, perpendicular to the street, a row of young trees, see photos in the West End. There are two more around the back of the house, see photos. In that posting are also photos of three young trees in the park at Comox and Bute. * Lower Rose Garden in Stanley Park, see photos in the West End. The ID of these is a bit in question, as Douglas Justice swears he's never seen witch's broom on Akebonos, and these trees have plenty of staminodes (the telling characteristic that distinguishes Akebonos from Somei-yoshinos) and a lot of witch's broom. This is a very photogenic location and has been a Festival Favourite twice. There are some young trees near the Georgia Causeway bridge, see photos.
