The following was posted to a Botany Photo of the Day entry on Akebia:

I have a akebis quinata which i planted last year ina large pot to climb over a pergola for its attractiveness and scent. It has grown profusely with masses of leave bbut no fruit or flowers. Could you advise. Many thanks amateur gardener.

    Time should do it.

My akebia grew the same way: the first year it took over the courtyard with tons of leaves but no flowers or fruit. The second year it added a few flowers. The third year it had plenty of sweet-smelling flowers and a quirky kind of fruit.
