I received a small air plant ( bromeliad ? ) as a gift . It has since flowered. I understand that once they flower , they are nearing the end of their life cycle. My plant has now produced a small "offspring" ! How do I separate it and re-establish it in a new receptacle ?

As you can see, at the front base of the plant is the new offshoot. I need to know how to move it to a new receptacle and when.

Your plant may be Tillandsia ionantha. The following document suggests:
I suppose the current receptacle can be reused for the offset since the mother plant may have declined significantly or died by the time the pup is ready to be transplanted.
