I've seen in done on a miniature scale for bonsai, would this also work for plant beds with Japanese maple? As a type of ground cover, so I don't have to keep pulling weed?

Would moss prevent water from getting to the roots? Currently setup a drip system for the garden bed.

Moss won't interfere with hydration nor aeration of the roots, but it will not prevent you from having to pull weeds. If anything, it will increase your weeding ills.

Very often, bonsai are grown without the moss. It's added (usually pads of different moss) before an exhibit to suggest a natural environment.

Hi vbx, I agree with both AlainK and Osoyung. Can I say for you to watch a few YouTube videos on gardens in Japan, where you will see 'many' gardeners manacuring the moss areas, weeding and weeding. It's a massive amount of work.
