Greetings! I planted a pear (Flemish beauty) and an asian pear (21st Century) on Galiano Island 2 years ago; the first season, I got a few sweet little offerings from both trees, but this summer, though they both flowered, no fruit. Is there such thing as fruit trees that fruit only biennially? I would like to add another tree to the mix this season. Does anyone have any advice on varietal to add to improve production? Should it be another flemish beauty? Or is it okay to go for a whole other variety of pear?

    Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi mholden, welcome to the forum:

I'm not an expert on pears, but here are 2 pollination charts: 1 for European pears and 1 for Asian pears.

It sounds like you may need 2 trees unless you want to graft something onto either/both of them. An early blooming European one like "Seckel" could pollinate both depending on when your existing European one blooms...
