Those good people from the delivery company have just emailed me and said they have my Mr Sun and it will arrive tomorrow !!! Waited a long time for this one.
Well it arrived and in very good condition in the circumstances. My first Acer Shirasawanum 'Mr Sun'. I will update the thread as to it's progress, as a lot of members in the UK are considering purchasing this cultivar.
@Acerholic What are your plans regarding repotting your new arrivals (Mr Sun, Extravaganza, Black Lace, Mystic Jewel etc)? They probably don’t necessarily require larger pots, but the compost they are potted in is an unknown. I thought I would probably leave mine until just before bud break next spring.
@Del good afternoon D, nice to hear from you. I have a couple that the roots are coming out of the bottom so will be repotted next week, Mr Sun has already gone into the ground, as it was the same re roots showing and a large plant. Extravaganza (Lileeanne's Jewel) as it should be called will be repotted in late February/March. I am not regimented with my repotting time, it all depends on age, condition, roots, etc etc. As you say the potting medium is often unknown and more often than not full of Osmocote. Our own mixes are far more loose IMO than nurseries compost and they are also planted far too deep. I do believe our maples do better for the long term once repotted. Hope yours are starting to colour up now in the transition phase. Do post some photos when you get a chance.
17th October 2020 and I wasn't expecting anything at all on my new Mr Sun, but here is a leaf showing what will come over the whole tree in Autumn 2021.
Well it's the 3rd January 2021, where is this year going !! As this is a new maple for me in 2020 I had to check to make sure it was alright this morning after a hard frost. I am pleased to say it is looking very well indeed, even though it is wrapped in Winter.
16th April 2021 and I can safely say the season has now started for my Mr Sun. No more frosts forecast, so hopefully it's all systems go for another year. Really excited to see how this one develops.
1st May 2021 and my Mr Sun is trying hard to catch up with D @LoverOfMaples, but with these harsh overnight frosts it's going to be a while yet before it does.
31st May 2021 and I absolutely love this maple. It took me quite a few years to get it, but it was worth the wait. Those leaves are just amazing.
12th July 2021 and my Mr Sun is showing some signs of stress. Not sure why tbh, but I thought I would show how it's going.
9th October 2022 and my Mr Sun in its second year with me, is just showing some colours. Morning dew helped to make the leaves rather nice IMO.
