Acer rubrum 'Red Sunset'

    These trees outside the law courts on Hornby (and Howe) Streets are mentioned by Straley in Trees of Vancouver (UBC Press, 1992) as being Acer rubrum 'Red Sunset'. I tried to tone down the cellphone camera colour. They're a bit paler orange than this.

    Identification perhaps suspect, if I remember correctly mine always turned in September here (when they began to dominate the back yard I took them out). Note also cultivar name of that introduction is 'Franksred' and not 'Red Sunset'.
