Acer Palmatum 'Chisio Improved' (moved to 'Shin chishio') Just got this one. Can't believe the spring colour of this tree,no this picture hasn't been enhanced it really is this colour, although it doesn't stay this way the full season.
Re: Acer Palmatum Chisio Improved Lovely pictures! I think my sister's tree that I have been trying to I.D. is this same cultivar. See "Japanese maple I.D." in the current list of posts for pictures. It gets even better as it matures. Wanda
Re: Acer Palmatum 'Chisio Improved' Here are a few shots of "Chisio Improved".. The spring colors of this maple are incredible. We have been lucky with a few late season spring storms in the southern california area, my maples have been getting a great soaking. I will post a few more pictures as this plant continues to leaf out. shiroi oni
New leaves on my Chishio Improved, Spring 2013. Are there any other trees with such bright, red leaves in the spring? Kevin in KC
I have a few that have the same bright color is spring and into summer, Beni komachi, Shin deshojo, and the beautiful Seigai (Bonfire and Akaji nishiki, synonyms?) Shin chishio is the star of the above for me.
Spring growth from April, 2014 of Shin chishio (Chishio Improved) Final picture also shows new leaves from Shidava Gold. Kevin in KC
Hi Schattenfreude,I don't like January ha ha,but seeing your pics reminds me of what's to come in just a few months time,a welcome sight during this dull, cold month. Nice plant there,Vertrees seems to recommend it too :)Sadly my little example died the same year I got it.It's been a bad year for my maples,I think the major re-potting I did had a too water retentative mix and all my plants suffered and became defoliated at some stage(though many re-leafed later)....and the large amoneums had such heavy seed sets they didn't do much else either. Here's hoping this year will be a good one for us all..I'm gonna try some soil-less mix this year, see if it makes a difference.
I thought I'd add a photo of the summer color, which for me is a surprisingly pretty green. This is a 3-year specimen, potted, in full sun for most of the day.
