Acer palmatum 'Purple Ghost'

10th July 2020 update. This cultivar gets more moody at this time of year every year. Planted in a very shady part of my garden and only receiving 3 hours of morning sun at most. Place this one in the middle of greens and you will have a wonderful show all through the 3 seasons.

 

The next stage to my Purple ghost developing Summer leaves. Nearly there!!!!

 

Well the 21st July 2020 and they are opening.

 

Day three of extreme heat 36° C, the regular updates as promised. Today expected to be hotter. Photo 8th August 2020.

 

19th August 2020, lashings of rain for last 3 days, everything is picking up, so a good Autumn display is still on the cards.
I have a favourite every day in my garden and today is 'Purple ghost'.
This cultivar I am asked on PM's to post almost daily. But today it is especially for J @zfrittz. Something to take your mind off the heat J.

@zfrittz good morning J, just went out and took this of my Purple ghost branches for you, as you can see they are of different colouring. Very normal !!

 

30th August 2020 and it is definitely getting colder. My maples are very happy now that the Summer heat has passed. They are all enjoying the early morning sun.
A few little holes from unwanted visitors, but the new leaves looked too pretty not to photograph IMO.

 

1st September 2020 and the very first Autumn dew arrives after a rather cold night.
Can't stop looking at my Purple ghost this morning!!!
This is why maple enthusiasts love Autumn.

 

14th September 2020 and although it is going to be hot later, a lovely early morning dew was on my maples.
So many peoples favourite is Purple ghost, a lot of forum members have just purchased it over the last couple of weeks. Here's mine today.

 

22nd September 2020 and tbe Autum Equinox is here and so are the changes.
What a tree Purple ghost is, even with sun damaged leaves.

 

28th October 2020 and after so much wind and rain here was my Purple ghost to bring a smile this morning.

 

4th November 2020 and the first frost of this Autumn has arrived, so with the few left that have got leaves in my garden, here is my Purple ghost with frozen tips.

 

19th March 2021 and my Purple ghost is not disappointing at all, even at this early stage of Spring. Probably quite a long way behind J @zfrittz over there in warm and sunny Spain.

 

Hello, my ghost purple is one of the most retarded that I have, I'll put a picture for you.

 

Good evening J, a bit retarded perhaps??? but Soooo much further along than mine. Wonderful to see your new Purple ghost giving you the pleasure you were hoping and expecting.

 

...very early if I compare it to our trees in climates with harsher climates ! ;-)

 

It was lovely to chat to some new members on PM's the other day, one of the questions was, can I post more of my early Spring photos to show their progression ? So here goes on the 25th March 2021.

 

2nd April 2021 and even though we had temperatures in the twenties for a few days this week, my Purple ghost is holding back. Quite pleased tbh, as frosts are on the way over this Easter weekend.

 

4th May 2021 and I can finally say my Purple ghost has caught up with everyone else.

 

Hello fellow maple fans, my Purple Ghost seems to have recovered from a rather worrying die back incident a few years ago, I'm so pleased as it's one of my favourites.
