I was given an acer palmatum orange dream and was looking for information as to its needs and growth pattern. I am trying to find an ideal spot and was looking for pictures or a discrition more detailed then "UP RIGHT" I f anyone has advice on this tree please help. thanks
approx size at maturity: 3 meters (10ft) at ten years and possible to 4 meters to maturity. Best in partial shade. according to J.D. Vertrees book, Japanese Maples, Timber Press.
The orange dream appears to be a wonderful tree for spring color. I have had a 2yr plant since this past spring and would say it conforms closely to its book description. It does prefer some afternoon shade and is growing rapidly. Of my fairly large JM collection, this is one of the fastest growing I have seen. I can imagine it easily reaching 10m. It appears to be somewhat shrub-like and would do well with regular pruining of its lower branches if your tree has a relatively low graft. It should be a beautiful and still uncommon specimen.
I bought a new Orange Dream this past year. This is a photograph of the spring colouration Sam http://www.btinternet.com/~fujiyamagarden/pics/orangedream12.JPG
