Description from Esveld nursery: Really enjoying this one so far: the leaves are so tiny, and such a vivid pinky-yellow colour in spring:
The pink and yellow combo at budbreak reminds me of 'Beni tsukasa', one of my favourites at this time of year. Looks a good one!
Oh, good call! I had a little look-through the Beni Tsukasa thread and you're right, the colour-combination is definitely similar isn't it? It'll be interesting to see whether they continue to look similar throughout the year or if they each go their own way in late spring and summer -- will keep posting pics, and I'm looking forward to finding out!
Now the leaves have fully opened there's still a subtle trace of yellow, but that pink is staying strong:
We've gone completely green at this point, but it's a much softer, gentler colour than most of my green maples which still makes it stand out in the little group of reds it's growing amongst:
Still such an interesting colour-blend on this little tree! It'll be quite something once it gets big enough to to put out tons of leaves like this:
Those interesting leaves keep going. I can't tell if I'd call it green, orange or red at this point - definitely a mix of all three!
