My first posting of my Acer palmatum 'Matsukazi'. August 2nd 2020 and it is starting it's change towards Autumn. I hope to get the same colours as Charlie Amazing maples this year.
7th August 2020, rain through the night thankfully, as it's going to be the hottest day this year in the UK. I will post my maples during and after this heatwave. This one is turning very quickly for Autumn now.
17th August 2020, now three days of heavy rain and my trees are picking up at last. My Matsu kaze is loving this weather. But it didn't mind the heat either.
21st August 2020, two named Summer storms are going to hit later today with winds of 50 mph plus, so I thought it better to take photos early. All have picked up this last week due to cooler conditions and long awaited rain. The colours are changing !!!! This photo was not about the leaf, but the Petioles, as I was asked to show this and I tried to get a little of both. Not overly successful, but the reds are seen.
All the colours are appearing now on all my maples and as promised I will keep the photo diary going to show the transformation. So much rain now and new growth, the new shoots are loving this weather at last. Photo 23rd August 2020 showing the happy leaves.
28th August 2020 and the ground is incredibly wet for the time of year. Just had more hail stones and my maples that are heavy in leaf do not like it one bit. Every day this is one is changing. So very pretty, I just hope it continues. With the weather not showing any signs of the heat returning, I expect it to perform well this Autumn.
Well it's the last day of August 2020 and as we have had a lot of rain and cooler weather here in England over the past two weeks, all my maples are doing well for the time of year. Took the same leaf this morning to show the very fast changes that are occurring.
Well its the beginning of September 2020 and the dew is appearing on the leaves. Together with the fast changing colours, it's that time of year of joy in the maple garden. The deepness of the reds showing more and more around the edges, especially on these types of mornings.
September 3rd 2020 and Autumn is very quickly upon us now. But new growth!!? Yes there is !! Such a dark cloudy day today, that any colours are very welcome. From dew to dry today and the colour is getting better and better.
7th September 2020 and in Southern England it is getting warmer once again. So surprised to see my maples with such dry leaves this morning. But this year is so very different for so many reasons!!? Just look at the veining and the close cut teeth on Matsukaze and say to yourself it does not deserve a place in any collection!!!? It does in my garden.
10th September 2020 and my maples are now racing into Autumnal colours. So warm and sunny at the moment, it does seem a bit strange though. As requested a follow up on the transition of my Matsu kaze.
2nd October 2020 and so much rain, a little sun on the leaves to show how deep the colours on my Matsukaze are turning.
17th October 2020 and the pinks are becoming more noticeable now. It only gets better and better until the leaves drop.
20th October 2020 and everything is moving along now. Colours emerging every day. Didn't think it could get any brighter, but here it is.
21st March 2021 and everything is starting to move into the preparation to open phase. So exciting!!!
