This is an old cultivar (1882 according to Yano's book) and the name means 'small figures on brocade'. Vertrees/Gregory book contains a detailed description: tiny leaves, variegated ('sunago fu' type) with yellow spots on a green backgound. New growth has pink edgings that contrast nicely with the older variegated leaves. Pictures taken today. Gomero
Pictures taken in late October at Westonbirt, autumn colours starting to blend in. Mr Vertrees (and Mr Gregory) describe the variegation as "subtle and beautiful", I believe they are correct.
1st May 2022 and my Komon nishiki has now fully leafed out. I'm still waiting for the variegation. But that will come. It's not everyone's cup of tea at this time of year. But just wait to November.
9th June 2022 and Summer colours are here. Not much in the way of variegation this year sadly. But healthy!!
My Komon Nishiki has nice amounts of white flecking to its leaves this spring, but not much in the way of pink blushing.
