Here is a beautiful 15 year old tree that was planted in just the right spot ,it seems to be flurishing.
In our garden, we call this 'Coonara- not-so-Pygmy'. Our 10 year old plant is close to 6' tall and wide (also referred to affectionately as 'Ball-o-Maple). It has the most consistant fall color of any dwarf maple in the garden.
Golly, what a show this one has been putting on ever since leafing out! It gets mostly shade but obviously enough sun to maintain a rosy glow! I acquired it mid-summer last year so this has been my first spring and on observing this cultivar. These pix taken 7/28 and it has had this coloring since leafing out! I am definitely impressed! Makes a fine container grown specimen and contrasts well with other dwarf and semi-dwarf forms. The leaves are very small and the colours have interest throughout the year. First three pictures taken May 2009, last one October 2006.
New pics from Spring 2010. (It's really hard to put pictures of similar quality cultivars as found here) All previous pics show explendid nice specimens. I hope mine will get as beatiful as is shown in that pictures. Here my two cents.....
This is the only maple that I have in the ground, and despite my terror and constant worry, it is doing marvelously. I planted it summer of last year, and it is growing as expected and doing a fair job of diverting attention away to the ugly air conditioner in the front of the house.... (seriously, who does that??) Anyways, it is one of my favorites, I love the tidy, flat little leaves.
18th May 2023 and my Coonara Pygmy has some nice fresh Spring leaves this year. I was surprised I hadn't posted it before. So here it is...
24th March 2024 and this one is by far the most in leaf in my garden so far, apart from Katsura of course.
