Does this particular maple throw seeds around in the spring? I just put this one in the ground the other day....

My neighbor has a different kind of Japanese maple, somewhat similar to mine which does just that, so he ends up with many seedlings all over his front yard, in fact, he gave me one of the seedlings that's he's been growing in a pot today.

    Thank you for any information!

    My new Acer Palmatum tree.

The seeds (called 'samaras') form in the spring, but it takes them til fall to ripen. Then they must go through a cold period before they will sprout. A lot of people collect the seeds in early fall and put them in damp paper towels in the fridge for a few months. Then they plant them in pots and watch to see what they get. Its quite fun, because the seedlings may not look anything like the parents.

    Happy gardening!
