Acer palmatum 'Akegarasu'

    Here is an outstanding variety of acer palmatum that I have gone out of my way to track down.

    There is what I feel to be the older traditional form of the maple, an amoenum form, as depicted in the Esveld photos linked below, and a newer form that is represented on the Ganshukutei site. It is clear that the plants are different.

    The photos were taken today 3/22/06, of the Ganshukutei form, or what I believe to be that form. I should also have two small plants of the form pictured on Esveld that might make for some photos later. While I intended to wait to post the photos, the irridescense on the emerging leaves inspired me.

    29th April 2024 and my Akegarasu has some rather nice shades of green today.
