I bought this one at a garden centre that was closing down, 40% oof. It's labelled Acer pseudosieboldianum 'North Wind', but I think I read somewhere it's a cross, a hybrid. Anyway, repotted today, branches trimmed, and a very nice graft :
That is a great looking graft. It's the same one as I have, from the Iseli "Jack Frost" series, which are supposedly hardy down to zone 4. They are palmatum × pseudosiboldianum, and were developed over a very long period (like 40 years!) by Iseli Nursery. The thing is, they do have to be grafted onto pseudosieboldianum to be hardy, and I don't think that rootstock is generally available in Europe. So I have been told they are grafted onto palmatum, which sort of defeats the purpose. I guess we don't really care here, since (for the time being!) we are thankfully far from Zone 4! For your records Alain, the name of the cultivar is 'IsINW'. NORTH WIND ® is the trademark name. I can't remember if I bought it last year or the year before. For me, it's nice enough, but not really that interesting. Now, 40% off, that's interesting! :) -E
How is the roots on your Acer pseudosieboldianum .....I'm growing 2. First Flame and Final Fire. First Flame easily grew an extra 3 feet in 1 season from a 18 inch-22 inch plant. Final Fire grew slower - 2/3 lower . Same planting time Re the roots. It's something new to me on unique to Acer pseudosieboldianum understock ? It's not like Palmatum in which I am familiar with but it's got like these multiple roots coming off the flare, all fairly close to each other and thick . I should snap a pic....to explain what I see on mine
