    Acer griseum x maximowiczianum
(aka Acer griseum x nikoense or Girard's Hybrid Paperbark Maple)

The tree in the picture was planted in 1928. A local introduction from Girard Nursery.

Note: Recently the Flora of China editorial committee reversed earlier judgments on the nomenclature for paperbark maples, and recommends that all Acer maximowicizianum be referred to as Acer nikoense.
