Hi Alex, totally agree. 'Lovely' maple. Mine is budding up nicely. Bet yours is quite the specimen all these years later ?? Re the name, I believe it is now Acer flabelletum.var yunnanense I will change the thread title..
the maple in the pics are dead after one terrifying summer 120 days without rain ,43°gradi in shade for two weeks and hot wind every days-this weather killed many maples -however now i have another two Acer flabellatum var.y. one expo full sun one expo partial shade -flabellatum in open sun is more happy in grown but graft point is was burned even though it is healing now! the two flabellatum are however slow growing only 15cm/year -amazing fall colors in expo full sun i add one pics -for more pics politica, aceri e rock roll: Acer flabellatum var. yunnanense (fall colors 2019)
So sorry to hear that Alex. But pleased you persevered and have another growing successfully. These extremes in weather are going to test our trees to the limit !!!! Love the Autumn photo.
I can show a couple of pics from last fall. It does like full sun. This one was badly damaged by a hard frost in Spring 2017, the bark died half way around, and it was in a very bad way; but frequent copper applications managed to save it, and now the stem has recovered completely. I thought it might die, so got another one in 2018, which I just planted last fall. It's a very fine tree in in Spring and Summer, too. Alex, the leaves in your picture look very serrated compared to our plants. Are they seedlings?
