acer conspicum Phoenix

    last week my Phoenix was in not good conditions ...well i cut ,cut ,cut
    now under the graft born new buds ! which maple is that "return"? please informations about the graft....

    Depends on what was used for rootstock on your particular specimen.

    Alex, as you probably know A. x conspicuum is a cross of A. davidii and A. pensylvanicum. Phoenix was a seedling of Silver Vein.

    So, it could be grafted on to any of section Macrantha, or on to conspicuum rootstock even.

    I planted a high graft of Phoenix this year, so far doing well. The stock has smooth brown bark with no signs of striping; I have no idea what it is. Yours probably comes from the same source? What does your root stock look like?
