A rare tree in the sidewalk

    Maybe someone here can help me to identify a handsome looking tree that is on a sidewalk in Cuernavaca Mexico, I asked the owner of the property, he did not know.
    I am enclosing a close up of a leave and the tree. I am sorry both photos show not straight .

    Just guessing...could it be some sort of broad leaved ficus??

    I don't think it is a ficus. Ficus normally have shiny leaves, the one above the texture in the leaves is like velvet.

    Do my eyes deceive me, or are those opposite leaves?

    I honestly don't understand what you mean "opposite leaves", the picture that has my hand on the leave is to show its size, and both pictures when I uploaded them show
    sideways not straight. The tree is at least 5 meters tall.

    Yep, leaves in opposite pairs, so definitely not Ficus.

    Looks like teak ( Tectona grandis ).
