WOW. This work---The Illustrated History of Apples in North America---documents all U.S. apple varieties known to have grown between the years 1623-2000. Most of the 1500 illustrations will be published for the first time. Many are archival watercolors by USDA artists, portraits of some 12,000 apples that no longer exist. Up to 5000 varieties are still being grown...grocery stores sell no more than 12. 30 years, 3,000 pp. Thanks, Mr. Bussey! http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/home_and_garden/2014/11/02/1-kn-wledge.html
