26 August 2007 Potato Harvest http://zofie.notlong.com/ 26 August 2007 Potato Harvest. This is the produce from 25 plants. Grown were Superior and Pontiac. The Superior were used all summer as required for the table. The potaotes were lightly washed to remove dirt, dried in the sun for about 2 hours to harden the skin, graded for size, then placed in paper bags. They will be stored in the dark cold room in the basement with the bags left open for air. The quality is excellent. http://www.durgan.org/Blog/Durgan.html
Nice crop Durgan! I was hoping for similar from my plantings this year but for some reason the plants only grew for a month or 2 after planting then withered up. I decided to dig around and see if anything had developed and was surprised to find quite a large number of potatoes but they are only of nugget or slightly larger in size. I'm looking forward to next year and a better crop. BTW I agree with one of you variety choices, I always plant either the red Pontiac or Norland which is also a red variety. I've tried russets but have never been impressed with them as anything but a baking potato. The reds seem to be good all around :o) Anne
