Identification: 2 More Cool Stuff

    Both of these are growing on some old tree stumps that are now used to enclose my compost piles - both very cool.

    Any ideas on what they are?

    Hello Harry,

    It looks like a slime mold (a myxomycete), perhaps something Stemonitis-ish?
    If the slug like trail showing up well in the first two pictures was not actually made by a slug <grin> it may be the trail left by the motile stage of the slime mold.
