You need to Sign Up and Log On to the forums in order to post messages and receive notification about the topics that interest you.
To Sign Up, click the Sign Up or Log On link at the upper right corner of the page.
Enter your email address and click New Account
Enter the following fields:
Name - this must be unique (and inoffensive). If you are someone associated with UBC Botanical Garden or another institution, it is preferred you use the form Firstname Lastname (e.g., Daniel Mosquin), but it is not necessary. Otherwise, feel free to be creative. Note that it asks for your name, but it is requesting the name you want to use on the system.
Password - enter your password twice (to ensure it's correct). The bulletin board uses strong encryption when it stores your password, so it is extremely secure.
Location - not your street address, but it is a big help when you ask questions for people to know where you live and therefore what can be growing where you live
Button verification system - click a button to indicate that you are a person and not a nasty robot
Click the Agree to Terms and Rules link (when we write our own, this will be revised suggesting that you read them)
Click on the "Sign Up" button.
Email Confirmation
After completing the steps above, an email is sent out automatically by the forums to the email address supplied that asks you to do one last step: confirm your email address.
This last step is done as some level of security for the rest of the community. If a registered member disrupts the forums with spam or obscene material, then it is possible in most cases to report the person to their internet service provider and have them suspend or remove the account from the person.
