    Hi fellow members,

I have just joined the community and I look forward to learn more about gardening.

I have just dug up the grass in a pot preparing and have found many tidy bulb like things inside te dirt.

I am just curious what type of grass is that?

    Thank ou all.

    Alex

I suggest it is the very invasive « alstroemeria »

I stupidly let some spread —

yes they are colorful orange flower around July 01st

    They spread underground

And also the seed pods « explode » and spread

I would not encourage you to plant them or to re-use that soil if these are alstroemerias

@Margot - i may be way off the mark cuz there is what looks like grass seed in OP pix

But some of what’s in photo sure looks like the dreaded alstroemeria.

    What do you think?

This is a real puzzle. I've never grown alstroemaria so I'm not too familiar with its leaves or roots. All I see in OP's photo is grass but I've never seen grass produce tubers like those.

Here's a picture I found online that shows the roots of an alstroemaria. They don't look quite the same to me as those in OP's photo.

I wonder if it's possible that the grass, or whatever it is, was planted deliberately in the pot to produce the tubers. Maybe something else entirely. The only way I know to find out is to plant the tubers and see what the leaves look like next year. And, I agree, keep them segregated until finding out whether they are invasive or not. (My guess is that they are.)

I have saved the tubers and will try to plant them next spring. Interestingly some of them are so big like potatoes. I Will let the group know how it is like.

Thank you so much for the help.
