    Thank you for posting - I just said to a community member here that I have not seen a stray detached kelp in the tideline nr Vancouver BC for ages — we used to drag them around and try to flip them like whips at others (bull kelp?) ... all those kid antics

    For us - the kelp was a very helpful boating navigation safety marker because usually the kelp bed was an indication of a hidden rock reef that was not necessarily marked on charts or by a buoy etc.

    And to think how many other species count on kelp too.
