Asking for identification of two trees in USA

    These two trees are difficult for me to identify, but I hope someone will help:

    The branch with red blossoms was photographed in New York, Central Park. I believe that these tall trees are quite common in this area, for instance in Philadelphia.

    The other tree was photographed in a botanical garden in Las Vegas, Nevada, in Springs Preserve. and is the only tree of this kind I have seen. The picture should hav been rotated clockwise to vertical position!

    Both pictures were taken in April 2014.

    Thank you! My questions may seem plain stupid, but I live in Scandinavia, Norway and many American plants are unknown for me. I'm gatefu for this forum and the very quick replies here!
