you have been a great help to me in my efforts at identifying several local plants, now I need real help... I am pretty sure this pine tree that fell in my yard is one of the yellow pines but I need to know more specifically which one. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me positively identify it. Thanks, Brian
One of the white pines, likely Eastern White Pine Pinus strobus, but it could also be Macedonian Pine Pinus peuce. I don't suppose you have a close-up pic of those cones (far left of the second pic)? Or any old cones still lying around? Presume it fell in June or thereabouts?
Thanks for your help. Not here at the moment, these are the best I can offer at this time. Yes, it was back at the first of the summer.
If the leaves were nice and soft and a bit blueish, eastern white pine. Cone photos would indeed help.
Thanks guys, from what you are saying I am thinking eastern white. They did have somewhat of a blue tint that doesn't show up in these pics. Those last two pics are the best shots I have of the cones...everything has been cleaned up.
Thanks! Yes, Eastern White Pine (Macedonian Pine is also soft and bluish, but has slightly different shape cones).
