I photographed these plants the other evening. I believe they are different varieties of lilies. Each has 6 stamen; and, the distal aspect of the pistil is divided into 3 lobes.

Are these lilies? And, if so, do the different colors and patterns identify them as specific types of lilies? If they are not lilies, what are they?

Thanks for the information and assistance.

Looks to me like Asiatic Lillies. You should be able to find the different ones on the net.

I believe they are all oriental lilies.Too many hybrids to be able to identify which ones you have posted with any certainty.
    1. May be Stargazer.

The first and last are oriental lilies; the middle one is an asiatic hybrid lily.

Yes, I think #1 is Stargazer as well.

Do lilies bloom in B'mgham this time of year? I live about 150 miles south of B'mgham and mine have just now set bud. And I agree that #1 is a Stargazer.

Wow. I wish mine was even poking through the ground here in Ont. Canada. Bit of a chilly spring this year.

Lilies are classified into "sections", with 7 sections in total, on the basis of similarities in growth patterns, physical features, and geographical distribution.
Section 4 is oriental lilies, which are the following species and hybrids thereof: L. auratum, brownii, japonicum, nobilissimum, rubellum, speciosum
Asiatic lilies are in section 5, and are the following species and hybrids thereof:
Section 5A - L. davidii, duchartrei, henryi, lancifolium, lankongense, leichtlinii, papilliferum
Section 5B - L. amabile, callosum, cernuum, concolor, pumilum
Section 5C - L. bakerianum, mackliniae, nepalense, ochraceum, sempervivoideum, taliense, wardii

Oriental lilies, in summary, differ from asiatics in having flowers that are large, bowl-shaped, flat or reflexed, and mostly fragrant, and are late-flowering, and with broad, alternate leaves.

The above is all from Lilies: A Guide for Growers and Collectors by Edward Austin McRae, a book that I recommend highly, particularly if you want to find out more of what the physical differences are.

Thanks to all for the information and assistance.

Ima... I can't confirm that there is a significant lily bloom occurring in BHM; however, there are many blooming in MGM.

Thanks again for your responses and information.
