The concept is great, but the photo in the Vancouver Sun article doesn't clearly show how it works. From what I gathered from an overhead view of the toilet, the feces are deposited in the back half of the opening under the toilet seat and stored within the block of mycelium, while urine is directed into the storage container alongside. I assume that the plastic parts can be removed and reused, the urine can be used as fertilizer, and the mycelium block with enclosed feces is composted when full.
