For those growing Bonsai or the effects on containers on trees, what dictates (limits) their growth vs in ground. Is it the width of the rootball -pot (aka, the invisible drip line).

If one root prunes the roots ....wheter it be every 2 years or the like so that the roots are not touching the sidewalls of the pots, does it (Un Bonsai effect ) the growth of the trees.

While I have noticed growth in said trees in year 1 and 2,.....it...

Worst of all, my Sango kaku. I "slip-potted" it in a much bigger pot last spring, and it gets full sun most of the day. I thought it could resist well, but I was wrong. It's too heavy for me to move it, and my sons are not always ready to help ...^_^

I wanted to ask some advice to find a Japanese maple that is red during this time of year (june-july). I have a small collection an none of my trees are red at the moment... I only have bright red colours during spring and then autumn...

Wondering if someone can figure out what is going wrong with my Golden Full Moon maple. I have had this tree for almost 25 years, and it was about 5 years old when I got it. So, its about 30 years old now, I have had it growing in root bags all these years, root pruning every 2-3 years. It has been doing great in the TX heat all these years, but this year it seems to be declining. Leafed out fine, but then the leaves started wilting and dying out in bunches and whole branches seems...

Novice maple enthusiast here. Just noticed these areas of stripped bark on the trunk of my Uncle Ghost (in a large container). Looks like something is eating the bark. Squirrels? Rabbits? Location is Seattle, WA, USA.

I’d appreciate any suggestions on 1) what could be doing this?, 2) how to treat/repair the damage, and 3) how to prevent future attacks.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. I am not an active member and so my apologies in advance if this question has an obvious answer or has been answered many times before!

I have a maple tree in my front yard that has been very healthy (at least, it seems that way) since I moved in 7 years ago. This year, it is dropping its leaves in May and seems stressed. Photos attached.

There are small green caterpillars crawling on it that may be part of the issue… or perhaps...
