Oregon: worms in our potatoes

We live in a coastal town in central Oregon; our soil is very rich as my husband blends chicken manure in preparation for his garden. This year the red potatoes had worms and we were hoping someone could identify them, then tell us how to fix our problem and ameliorate the soil...since we have a small space to grow our vegetables it is impossible for us to shift crops around...can anyone help??

 

Wireworms. Lots of pictures and information on the internet, when you Google "wireworms" it even offers "wireworms potatoes" as a search phrase to use.
