Why is Alstroemeria also (incorrectly?) spelled Astromeria?

I want to use the correct spellings for the flowers that I photograph.

I have seen two spellings for this flower. I used one of the links you provided to find "Alstroemeria" as the correct spelling, but have yet to find a reason why it's being spelled differently by so many.

    Thank you,

    Ann

It is named after the Swedish botanist Claus von Alströmer; in scientific names, ö is correctly rendered as oe, but some people probably fail to notice this and simply spell it wrongly.

Thank you very much! I appreciate that. I'm going to include that in the description on my photography web site.
People appreciated having the names of the hummingbirds on the backs of my greeting cards and said I ought to do the same with my flowers.

Thanks for the quick response, too.
