This information is from Bill Stephen of the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation. Thanks to Joseph Lin for asking the question and sending along the answer.

There are approx 17,428 cherry trees on boulevard streets.
There are approx 11,116 Kanzan identified, though many are different cultivars (assumed to be Kanzan)
    There are approx 1,547 Akebono.
    There are approx 80 Somei-yoshino.
There are approx 17,000 cherry plums—mostly Prunus cerasifera cultivars

Bill commented that Kanzan may be over-reported and the others under-reported. I think we have 1,547 Akebono in the West End alone (just kidding, but Joseph was surprised there were so few in comparison with the others, and so was I). These numbers do not include plantings on private property, and I think they also do not include park trees.

Linda Poole, the festival artistic director, adds:

    Four years ago
Bill Stephen and Paul Montpellier calculated 36,000 total cherries including
those on streets, in parks and private gardens. David Lam has a slightly
    higher figure.
