I have a pond with 2 waterfalls in central-south Texas. (90 miles north of Houston) I am looking for fish-friendly plants that will survive our Texas heat in summer and occasional 32 degree winters. Please give me suggestions.

Submerged or emergent? What types of fish can be a major factor as
(IE Koi) some are very destructive to aquatic plants.

Just to be clear Houston can experience much colder temperatures
than suggested by this poster. For instance 29F (-2c) is forecast for tonight.
It's not unusual to have temps in the mid-tewnties F (-4c) in outlying areas.
On rare occasions it can get as low as 15F (-10c).

It may get down to mid-20's, though seldom in this protected area. We currently have 2 goldfish and 2 plecostomus. Our pond is about 2 1/2 feet deep, though 14 ft long. We think it is too shallow for koi? What do you think?

Your pond if shaded could accommodate 1 or 2 koi though they'd be stunted.
If you stay with goldfish most emergent plants would work. Plecostomus
can grow quite large and may root out the plants roots.

Just read that Plecostomus don't tolerate much colder than 55F so you may
have to heat the pond or bring them in.
