    - course listing is in the process of being corrected to show the combination of classroom and field portions.

    Can I Eat That Mushroom? A Mycological Adventure

    Interested in fungi? Curious to know more about the colourful and mysterious mushrooms you see in your lawn or on hikes? This hands-on, practical and fun course includes both classroom and fieldwork: We will introduce you to the fascinating life histories of fungi, provide techniques for identifying mushrooms and more.
    Gain:
    • An understanding of fungal biology and ecology basics;
    • An understanding of field identification and nature observation principles and best practices;
    • Field identification skills, via integration of classroom and field learning and hands-on practice (key features, habitat, habit, lookalikes and so on);
    • Learning about and practice in identifying local edible species;
    • Information on culinary, medicinal and other modern and traditional human-fungi interactions, including collection, preservation, preparation and safety.
