I have a crabapple tree that's over 30 years old. Last year there was a problem with the leaves, and this year it seems to have the same leaf problem (brown spots, some turning yellow and falling off), but all around the bark of the entire tree are really small holes. It's weird because they are all the same size and pretty much uniformly situated around the bark. I attached a picture. Anyone know what it is?

Leaf spots probably apple scab, holes are sapsucker damage.

    Thanks a lot!
It's interesting about the Sapsuckers because the tree is right outside the front door and I've never seen any birds around that tree besides the ones that sit in the foliage part. But maybe it comes around during the day when no one's home...

Is Apple Scab harmful to the tree?

Susceptible kinds live with it for years so apparently it does not have a highly noticeable retarding effect, however it does significantly reduce the decorative value of their leaves and fruits.
