With those long branches left untrimmed, it's also looking better than most trees of this cultivar.

Yes, it was really pretty! We contemplated having a picnic hanami under it but decided not to haha..

ID 3755 says there were 5 Shiro-fugen planted in Slocan Park. We only found 1 between 2 Akebono so now I'm thinking I may have to do a hunt Easter-egg style. Pictures of that one Shiro-fugen meanwhile. Starting to bloom.

And the Kanzans along Rupert for the 17 blocks are also on their way. West side Kanzans are more in bloom than East side ones.

Adding a couple more to the map. Kanzans near Falaise Park.

There're a few along the road Normandy at junction of Worthington.
    Kanzan_NormandyWorthington_Yong_20220422_IMG_9760.JPG

And at Dieppe Pl, along both sides. Nice view of the mountain in between the young Akebono and old Kanzan through the gap :)

Trying to figure out the best spot to take pictures of Rupert's triple row of Kanzans. Still can't really decide.
The latest "intruders" are the Shiro-fugen trees, mostly planted along the middle road divider. Together with the random Akebonos and non-cherry trees, they are in the way most of the time :/

25th looking North, possibly the best with minimal non-Kanzans and no construction

    More in bloom :)
This Avium at Falaise Park offers a picnic with a great view. Should it be added to the map? Only 1 of it though.
    Avium FalaisePark_IMG_9869.JPG

Avium Plena along 18th near Nootka are out. The second picture gives a nice size comparison Left Avium Plena, left back pink Kanzan, front centre another Avium Plena, right back Takasago not much pink left.

Along 22nd, west of Renfrew, Kanzans. Should be good on a sunny day.

Also at the same junction, there's Three Links which has Kanzan and Shirotae.

Turns out the Kanzans along Rupert also include two-toned ones haha..

Wellington East of Joyce has a few Kanzans lining the road too.

We don't generally post single-flowered sweet cherries unless there is something really outstanding about them. This doesn't look old enough or big enough to get on the map, though the photo is really nice. Up to you.
Well, they have been out since the beginning of the month! I think their flowers are the real longevity stars, at least this year.

Easter hunt update: found 3 Akebono and 3 Shiro-fugen, just not planted together. The other 2 Shiro-fugen and 1 Akebono are nearer the 4 Snow Goose. I guess perhaps the rest that the City mentioned they planted had issues and are now possibly gone. There's a bee house on one of the Shiro-fugen near the Snow Goose. That probably explains why I saw many bees at the Snow Goose previously.

Not the sunniest of days but it's a bit more sun than my previous visit. Kanzan triple row along 22nd at Renfrew and the Shirotae at Three Links (which are mostly gone now).

The Kanzan and Shiro-fugen trees along Cassiar between 22nd to 24th are in bloom. The Avium had blossoms too but are too high for any acceptable photos.

The rains have brought many pink carpets to the Rupert and East 22nd areas.
Along 22nd between Rupert and Windermere as well as between Renfrew and Kaslo.

The yellowish White Ukon Cherry Blossom finally changed colour to show its reddish highlights.
I know it’s almost the end of the bloom but I love this striking lights.

Some favourites for this neighbourhood are either in bloom, approaching peak bloom or hanging on for just a bit more.

Last chance to catch Whitcomb at Clive and McHardy.

Somei-yoshino near Windermere Secondary are almost at peak bloom.

Akebono looking good at 23rd and Cassiar, Austrey and McHardy as well as Windermere (between Grandview Highway and 17th, looking North and South respectively).

Do you think the first picture would make ID7565 qualify as a favourite? And last 2 pictures would make ID 15119 qualify to be a favourite? Both are not listed as favourites currently.

In other news, there are 2 Kanzan at 22nd and Rupert that will be removed. They're right in the middle of the lane pinned as "favourites". Possibly before they get to bloom later this year. They don't look unhealthy so it's a bit sad. Not sure what they will be replaced with.

The two 'Akebono' trees at the main entrance of Renfrew Community Centre (E.22/Renfrew) are in fine, full bloom at April 11, 2023.

    20230411_Akebono_E22Renfrew_Eng_7633.jpeg 20230411_Akebono_E22Renfrew_Eng_7634.jpeg

On E.22nd, by the steps leading down to the main entrance, is this stalwart young 'Rancho' keeping up. It offers convenient low branches to test the stickiness of the red bud scales, and see the funnel shape (no bulges) on the calyxes of Prunus sargentii. Standing upright, and keeping the bloom close to the trunk, the 'Rancho' has a lean, mean, no-nonsense, almost masculine look—if that is possible for a cherry tree—when compared to the graceful, soft arching of the 'Akebono' twins.

If you drop by the area again, the Takasago along 18th are starting to bloom too!

The 'Washi-no-o' trees along the west side of Nootka and E. 25th are in fragrant bloom at April 12, 2023.

    20230412_Washi_NNootkaE25_Eng_7657.jpeg 20230412_Washi_NNootkaE25_Eng_7666.jpeg 20230412_Washi_NNootkaE25_Eng_7665.jpeg 20230412_Washi_NNootkaE25_Eng_7661.jpeg 20230412_Washi_NNootkaE25_Eng_7667.jpeg

A few blossoms have dropped, showing the incised, ragged edges of the petals, and the prominent stigmas on the centre styles. Still lingering scent on the eagle tails!

Thanks, @Yong. I made 7565 a favourite and I changed the photo and forum links on the map to go to your posting above. For 15119, @Willard, who is with me right now, gave it a thumbs up because of the snow on the mountains in the background, so I made it a favourite and changed the photo and forum links on that as well.

This spot is a bit trickier to view this year. Akebono at Collingwood Village Rental office and apartment along Crowley Drive. The gates are open only once the few times I checked, no fixed schedule and can't seem to figure out when exactly.

Last year, we added a new marker ID.15191 to the map, but was a bit too late to capture the Shirotae in full bloom. This year, made it in time! Kanzans aren't out yet though.
East of Renfrew/Boyd Diversion, along 22nd.

Some updates on nice sites nearby.
Somei-yoshino at Windermere Secondary, 27th and Lillooet, are ready for those who wish to experience Tokyo "petal snow/rain".

Washi-no-o along Nootka near 25th are holding on and providing a nice fragrance in the area.
    Washi-no-o_Nootka25th_Yong_20230424_IMG_3622.JPG
Takasago along 21st from Nootka to the East are at peak bloom.

Personally enjoy walking along 21st although the trees aren't as packed because they have extremely low lying branches, perfect to see the cherry blossoms up close. Not just Takasago but Shirotae too! Shirotae are nearer Rupert. ID 2378, the Shirotae have grown to become interestingly wide in shape. Fragrant too!

Such good colour on that 'Takasago' and others of that cultivar from out in the neighbourhoods. The ones in the West End went from just a few open flowers to all the same colour so quickly.

Kanzan triple row along Rupert is back! Looks like the tree at 22nd and Rupert is still around so no huge gap for now.
