Can anybody name what's growing on my paulownia trunk and tell me what it does/will do/did to my tree which has been a headache for a number of years? If it's the final death sentence I'm ready to accept it!
    Thank you.

Major wood decay - those are the spore production bodies of the decay fungus, possibly a Stereum or Chondrostereum species. If the tree isn't already dead, it is very nearly so. Definitely time to remove it, before it breaks in the nest storm.

I had this and a new shoot grew that is now a happy tree. I cut the old one down and a stem came out below it. and kept going. Now about 5 yrs old.
