Can anyone enlighten me about how, when, and why a person goes about grafting a citrus tree? Are there any good references on the web or good books?
A rootstock imparts qualities to the scion. Different rootstocks provide different qualities including tree size and vigor, fruit size and quality, disease resistance, adaptation to soil type, and cold hardiness. Unfortunately there is not one 'magic' rootstock; selection is dependent on the desired qualities and suitability for local conditions. There is no shortage of information on the web. Education (.edu) sites are good sources. Here are two documents to get you started: T-Budding Grafting and T-Budding
