Hi, Does anyone know what the seeds of Fagus Crenata look like?Do they look the same as Fagus Sylvatica?I received some seeds in the mail from Sheffields and they don't look anything like Fagus Sylvatica. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Cheers, John bo
Google turned up a few photos. F. crenata seed: http://sho-fujimaki.blogspot.com/2008/12/fagus-crenata-seeds.html http://www.akita-pu.ac.jp/bioresource/dbe/forest/hoshi/tree_rodent/index.html http://www.forest.kyushu-u.ac.jp/staff/utsumi/BioPhotoArchive/Plant/buna.html (third photo) Buna seed: http://www.nishida-s.com/main/categ3/19karamatsudake/19karamatsudake.htm http://www.bisuikan.co.jp/shirakami/buna.html
First link just shows empty cupules, not seeds. Third link is good, and shows they look exactly like F. sylvatica.
Hi Michael, Thanks for the info. The www. nishida site shows the seeds to be about the same size as mine but shaped a little differently. The f.sylvatica seeds I've had were at least twice as large and distinctly triangularly shaped.I'll plant these and hope for the best. Regards, John.
