That is an amazing sight D, must be a few hundred or so. Are they all going in individual pots to sell on? Also a high percentage chance of one or two specials.

I will pot a lot of them. Some will be sold, used as rootstock, and replanted out in the landscape. I wish I had enough space to watch the all to see which one be that special one. Lol. There are about 3 or 4 green ones I have my eye on at the moment.

Just a heads up if you didn't know, Batsford is currently operating a booked time slot system for arrival. Even if you don't have to pay with your friends of Westonbirt membership you still need to book a time slot via the Batsford website.

I suppose it's asking a bit much for you to dig up that fine looking sapling and pop it in the mail to me?

What a spectacular tree! Simply gorgeous! Many thanks for posting this beautiful tree!

That looks like a great place to visit. But we'll have to wait months before the Covid-19 is under control so we can travel abroad again, plus I'll need a passport now, and a visa. :-(

I wonder how the "school tourism" that used to bring a lot of money to Britain will manage these new conditions : I organised or took part in more than a dozen school trips to London, Cornwall, Devon, Bath, etc. The pupils only needed a "carte d'identité", almost everyone has one, even if it's not compulsory. You can use it to travel to some non-European countries like Morocco or Turkey, and quite a few number of teenagers here have family links with these countries. I wonder whether the colleagues will face the hassle it will imply, how many families will pay for a passport, and how they will feel when planning to leave their kids go to Britain : already, I've read reports of people being turned away at the border without any real reason. OK, the British customs have always had a ... reputation, but I'm afraid some will take the opportunity "upgrade" it.
On the other hand, I've unfortunately had to call the emergencies, and even take pupils to hospital (a fall from a lion in Trafalgar square, a serious crisis of epilepsy, a girl's urinary tract infection, a bit from a grey squirrel at kew Gardens, ...) and the staff of the NHS were very friendly, very professional, really perfect, and at that time, the conventions the 2 countries had made it free of charge.

Global warming, age, arthritis, geo-politics and the rest : I hate the beginning this 21st century. A dry and bitter century.

And we can't even find clotted cream here ! Woe is me...

Ah ! My chest ? I haven't told you about my lungs after 50 years of 20-30 cigs a day.

I will mow the rest of the "lawn" tomorrow, hopefully I'll take a new breath in the morning.

I repotted, or rather "slip-potted" or whatever you call it a couple of maples today, basically the way Otto Bjornson does or the like, and moved them to another place, an Acer griseum and an Acer circinatum 'Burgundy Jewel' among others.

But what I really liked was to see a butterfly on the "Japanese quince" next to them :

The red leaves are Acer circinatum 'Burgundy Jewel', it's just been repotted. I think - hope it will take/grow at least 60 cm :

The tree in the background is a Zelkova, a beautiful tree in all seasons.

The Acer griseum. Very healthy :

'Jerre Schwartz' has recovered from the frost :

This seedling from Acer shirasawanum 'Autumn Moon' is having a life and a "design" of her own :

Winter's gone, the sun in the leaves make the maples shine. 'Atropurpureum' :

    'Starfish' :
