Acer palmatum 'Mystic Jewel'

It would be interesting to put it through an Acer identification key and see what species it keyed out to.

 

23rd April 2022 and here we go for another season. This really is a jewel.

 

My Mystic Jewel still droopy last week, but now they're almost all spread. The violet tinges shimmers just like some form of iridescence.

2nd May 2022 and this is why it's called Mystic, those leaves are just entrancing IMO.

 

23rd May 2022 and Summer colours are coming fast to my Mystic Jewel.

 

6th June 2022 and the rain during the past 2 days here in Southern England has made my Mystic Jewel turn to Summer greens, with hints of pink.

Didn't grow much this year at all. Stayed quite the same. I think the heat and drought put paid to any growth. Around 7ft tall (2. 13 m)
Here are a couple of photos from today.

 

14th May 2023 and my Mystic Jewel is only just leafing out. So I took a close up photo of the young but pretty leaves.

 

My Mystic Jewel showing real purple colors, before it got hit by verticillum/pseudomonas (later in spring, actually I can't tell which one). But I was able to salvage what's left with a fungicide.
We will see later on if it wasn't rootstock that was growing.

 

Some nurseries including the brothers Mr Maple and Mr Maillot (France) have modified the species into "Oliverianum" for them it would be a hybrid. maybe it should be changed to "Acer oliverianum x Mystic Jewel" on the forum
(The very strong growth and shape of the leaves closely resemble "oliverianum")

 

@timnichols good morning Tim, can I ask for you to look at @Romain01 thread below re Mystic Jewel new name. Is Acer oliverianum x 'Mystic Jewel' now the recognised cultivar name by the NAB?

 

Beautiful Romain and I have asked Tim for a definitive answer as to the new ID of this maple.

 

23rd April 2024 and my Mystic Jewel has those lovely colours it is known for . Only just starting, but worth the wait IMO.
