Acer palmatum 'Momoiro koyasan'

5th May 2023 and the one good thing about a cooler Spring, is that the delicate leaves do sooo much better. Here is my Momoiro koyasan this morning very happy Indeed.

 

Spot mine on the top shelf of my bonsai stand.

Other (mostly Japanese maples) there on the benches are a Deshojo, Beni Chidori, Beni Maiko, a group planting of I don't really know what, Kotohime, Acer Campestre, Acer ginnala and a Katsura. You have to find them - that's the challenge.

 

13th July 2023 and my Momoiro koyasan is putting out lots of new growth ATM.

 

Are you sure it's Momoiro koyasan ? The reticulated aspect of the leaves makes me wonder... To me it looks more like Phoenix.

Absolutely stunning Jerry!! Is this grafted? If it is, it's very well done.

 

It was a grafted tree which I bought as a garden plant from the actual patent holder in Holland - Dick van der Maat in Boskoop.

When I repotted it I discovered that it had rooted at the graft point and had perfectly formed radial roots:

I just looked back through the photos - it hasn't been repotted since 2018 - OOPS...

 

Oh my! But it shows how talented you are to keep it so healthy, it's a fantastic tree.

 

What an awesome surprise for a bonsai artist! Yours has me on the hunt for one here in the US.

 

Good luck. When I spoke with DIck v/d Maat - he actually mentioned Mr. Maple - you might try them.

Also - if you can't find momoiro koyasan - a deshojo or a beni maiko is a very nice colour.

12th April 2024 and some pretty leaves today.

 

Mine has almost turned to green now...

That's what 500 miles further south will do....it is great to see the differences around the world for cultivars we have.

It is ! Some 26°C yesterday,
"Only" 24 today, but back to normal from tomorrow, about 15 in the afternoon.

(You probably have noticed that I'm this kind of person that's always humming a tune. When reading "500 miles", it instantly triggered a melody in my head... 500 miles, 500 miles, ... etc --Peter, Paul and Mary)
