Just a tiny graft for now, but I loved these colours at the beginning of May:

    agreed Xi,
the colours are stunning when they first leaf in spring.
We are about a month behind this year in the UK, a cold and now wet start to spring...
Mine has had some pruning done to thin it out earlier this year.

Good eye - that's him! Nothing but positive experiences buying from him, he's fantastic.

Dave I am in awe - what a gorgeous tree! Looks very happy where you have it!

Good evening Dave, great to see you back again and with a stunning maple from your garden.
We are the same here btw, at least a month behind and still so many to leaf out. But lots to look forward to this month.

Thought so Xi, yes he does supply good maples, although quite small and need some protection in the early years.

    Thanks,
the leaves get a little sun scorched on the top during hot summer weather...
but it gets a little less each year, he's only been in the ground for a couple of years and was in various pots for a few years before that.

yes, i've still got a few that are just starting to leaf.
and a random seedling that sprouted last year, it germinated in an acer palmatum dissectum viridis pot,
and has a slight dissectum serration to the leaf, but has the colouration and leaf shape of the osakazuki that is near it,
    probably cross pollenated?

Pink colours now turning towards peach/amber, which is fun. Can't wait until this little guy puts out some branches and turns into a proper tree!

I don't know about you Xi, but I feel that the size of the tree with JM is really not that important. They give and give no matter how big they are.

Very well said, D. Still, more branches = more room for those lovely leaves. I'm really looking forward to seeing this one develop and grow over the next few years, fingers crossed.

The Twig is starting to push out some branches (not quite enough to stake yet, but getting there soon!) and the colour changes are so much fun to watch:

Twig has turned green and that new branch is long enough to stake, hurrah!

(This is quite possibly the most photographed twig on the planet at this rate, but I don't care)

Old leaves losing some of their singular interest from earlier in the year, but that new growth is so peachy-pink. And it's wild how excited I get watching that little branch stretch out and lengthen day-by-day:

My blatant favouritism of this tree continues. Looking back over this thread, I realise that only a month ago neither the top branch or that side one existed at all: it was still just the tight cluster of leaves that are now in the middle, and nothing else. Once they get growing, they really go for it!

Can't really call him a twig anymore. Now staking up the side branches to try and encourage him to go where I want him as he continues to pump out growth: he has just taken off running!

The twig is now officially too big for a 'full body' shot. I call that a result:

Second flush well underway Xi and this weather we are having should produce so much more this year. Very pretty.
