Acer palmatum 'Inaba shidare'

28th June and my Inaba shidare is now at it's peak of colour in my garden.

 

Inaba Shidare has mostly turned deep green as we go towards late summer, but the new growth is a lovely red.

 

More and more new growth, turning redder and redder every day. Loving it!

 

Inaba Shidare at the end of August:

 

16th April 2022 and the heat yesterday here in the UK has got my Inaba shidare underway. All systems go now.

 

My Inaba Shidare is doing well after the winter. Just moved it to a new spot, so we'll see how it does here:

 

Certainly stands out in that position Xi. Could be a permanent spot !!?

 

Thanks D, I hope so -- I moved my Suminagashi and then had the problem that this corner became a sea of green, so I definitely need at least one of my reds to break up the colour and give some interest. I'm hoping Inaba Shidare can cope as it's a shadier spot than it was in previously, so crossing my fingers it doesn't start going green on me!

 

Inaba shidare does like a bit more sun than others Xi. So it might be an ongoing experiment.

 

The perks of having 'em in pots! Keeps me busy hauling them around the garden and allows for experimentation/'redecorating' whenever I get a bright idea for a new look :)

 

4th May 2022 now fully leafed out, so two photos to share. Only 5ft tall, but has some presence in my garden.

 

18th May 2022 and the dark reds that this one is well known for in Summer has already arrived.

 

23rd June 2022 and the deep dark reds of my Inaba shidare are really hitting the mark this year.

 

3rd November 2022 and my Inaba shidare with half and half colours this Autumn.

 

Very nice. I suppose the red side is the one that gets the sun?

A good way to remember that when you lie on a beach you mustn't fall asleep : one of my son stayed on a beach for 15 minutes near Nice one year, in August, and when he woke up, he had the perfect design of the hand he had on his belly : white, with a deep red colour around, huh huh, that was a good laugh !

 

10th December 2022 and a lot of white on my Inaba shidare this morning. -7°c overnight and won't go above 0 c for next week.

 

14th May 2023 and out in all it's glory. Such deep red this year.

 

31st October 2023 and my Inaba shidare has done well all year. Colouring up nicely now, although very late, as many others are.

 

21st April 2023 and some pretty colours on my Inaba shidare. (Likes the sun).
